Chestnut Hill Hospital Earns Center Of Excellence For GYN Surgery
Philadelphia, PA — Chestnut Hill Hospital recently earned recognition as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG). The COEMIG program recognizes surgeons and facilities that demonstrate an unparalleled commitment and ability to consistently deliver safe, effective, evidence-based care.
“This designation distinguishes Chestnut Hill Hospital’s GYN surgery program for meeting requirements for delivering high-quality patient care,” says Lynda Thomas-Mabine, M.D., gynecology. “Our program provides women with innovative, minimally invasive surgical treatment options that preserve fertility, reduce or eliminate pelvic pain and abnormal bleeding and control bladder function. The integration among our clinical team and the Hospital results in truly excellent care and health benefits for our patients.”
Patients who undergo minimally invasive gynecologic surgery experience less pain, reduced blood loss, fewer complications, shorter hospital stays and a faster recovery, when compared to traditional surgery. “That means patients can return to normal activities sooner,” says Dr. Thomas-Mabine. “And, it’s the reason why minimally invasive surgery is quickly becoming the preferred – and often demanded – treatment approach for many women in our community. At Chestnut Hill, more than 85 percent of our GYN surgical procedures are done minimally invasively, compared to about 40 percent nationally.”
COEMIG designation means that both the hospitals and the surgeons have undergone a critical review process and met standards developed by the AAGL and Surgical Review Corporation to
ensure the efficacy, safety and efficiency of their minimally invasive gynecology programs. Among the many qualifications considered are: the experience of the surgical staff; the hospital’s technology and equipment; clinical pathways for care; a specialized surgical team and patient outcomes and ongoing quality assessment.
“Our team of highly-trained surgeons and staff are committed to advancing minimally invasive gynecology and surgery,” said John Cacciamani, M.D., CEO, Chestnut Hill Hospital. “The designation as a ‘Center of Excellence’ reinforces our pledge to provide the best care to our patients by showing our dedication to the continual improvement of healthcare quality and safety.”
